If you haven’t yet heard, the famous Guitar Hero video game series will be making a huge return. Coming off of a four year hiatus, the game will be showing off some new features, new gameplay and, of course, new songs.
When asked to comment on the rumors of the new videogame, Activision stated to Engadget, “…we would only bring Guitar Hero back if we developed the right innovations to usher the franchise into the new generation of gaming.” Well, it looks like they’ve developed the innovations they deem necessary, because the new game, Guitar Hero Live, is set for release in the fall.
So, what are some of the new features and gameplay options? The developers have created a more realistic gaming experience, making the game first-person, so it feels like you’re really on stage with the band. Also, the guitars are drastically different, with the buttons now stacked on the fret board in two rows, making the movement more natural and fluid.
And, of course, new songs will be featured in the new game. Much speculation has begun regarding song choices, so here is a list of ten songs that should (and hopefully will) be present in Guitar Hero Live.
“I Ain’t the Same”—Alabama Shakes
If any band is generating a ton of buzz lately, it’s Alabama Shakes. “I Ain’t the Same”, from the band’s debut record Boys & Girls, would fit in perfectly with the new game. Not only is it a rocking song, but Guitar Hero itself isn’t the same this time around, either.
“Little Black Submarines”—The Black Keys
What an awesome addition to Guitar Hero Live this would be. Starting off calm, quiet and easy, this song erupts into a hard-rocking, high-energy tune.
“Almost Ready”—Dinosaur Jr.
To be honest, any Dinosaur Jr. song would be welcome in a game specifically about the guitar. J. Mascis doesn’t disappoint in this song, and gamers would certainly get a kick out of playing along to this jam.
“All These Things That I’ve Done”—The Killers
The Killers are no strangers to Guitar Hero, as their hit song “When You Were Young” was featured on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Let’s welcome them back with the return of Guitar Hero.
“Oh Love”—Green Day
Rumors have already been circulating about Green Day being featured in the new Guitar Hero Live, and “Oh Love” is a likely candidate. With an exposed power chord guitar line during the verses and a great, melodic guitar solo, fans will not be bored when rocking out to this tune.
“Rope”—Foo Fighters
This one would be a lot of fun if you’re playing with a friend. The call-and-response guitar work here will certainly draw you in, and the rest will be history.
“Touch of Grey”—The Grateful Dead
It sure is Dead season. Not only is the Grateful Dead coming to Chicago soon, but we can also be hopeful that they’ll make an appearance in Guitar Hero Live. Few things would bring more joy to the gamer than playing along to this beautiful tune.
“Wait Until Tomorrow”—The Jimi Hendrix Experience
It’s pretty crucial to have something from Jimi Hendrix in a game like this. “Wait Until Tomorrow” would be an incredible addition to Guitar Hero Live. We’ll just have to wait until the official release to make sure this is right.
“I Don’t Know”—The Sheepdogs
Canada seems to foster some pretty awesome talent, and the Sheepdogs are no exception. A fairly modern band with a classic sound, these guys will definitely keep the gamer rocking—and listening afterwards.
“Gravity”—John Mayer
With faster-paced songs typically being featured in a game like this, it would be nice to turn the lights down low with “Gravity”. This slow jam showcases John Mayer’s guitar chops and would be a nice change of pace for the aspiring guitar hero.
